A lazy Sunday enjoying walks and hot chocolate at Grovelands Park in North London

Sunday is my favourite day of the week. It features a lie-in with son and hubby, a read of the morning papers over a lovely breakfast and a trip to the local park. Grovelands has to be my favourite park and is my favourite pastime – not just a Sunday ritual. My two-year-old, who probably thinks the park is his own big garden, always gets excited when he realises we are on the street leading to the park. I think the play cars in the cafe have something to do with his excitement!

Situated between Winchmore Hill and Southgate in North London, Grovelands is a great place to walk, jog, sit or play. The centrepiece of the park is a large lake filled with ducks and swans, surrounded by well-kept landscape. Nearby is woodland where a lovely play area was erected two years ago. There are also tennis courts, basketball courts and a large open field which is amazing for games and picnics in the summer.

I recommend a brisk walk around the lake before heading to the play area and cafe which is run by a friendly mother and daughter duo who have been working there for years. This is a great spot to relax, take in the views and watch my little man improve his driving skills while enjoying a tasty hot chocolate topped with marshmallows and cream.
